Turn One FAQ's and Information
What time should I arrive?
Registration opens at 7 am. You will need to sign a track waiver, obtain the run group sticker for the event (which indicates your assigned group), a wrist band that will allow you to enter the track and the schedule for the day. After leaving Registration, you will move on to Tech which is generally held in the Tech Shed across the fence from the 24 Bay Garage.
What happens AT Tech?
You will need to bring your completed Tech form (completed by the garage or mechanic of your choice). The Staff will complete a brief Tech, checking for brakes lights, making sure that there are no fluid drips and that there is nothing in your car that could shift drawing your attention away from your driving. Please refer to the Inspection/Tech form for details.
What happens AFTER Tech?
You will need to go to the Mandatory Drivers’ Meeting (generally held at the Tech Shed). There you will receive the “rules” for the day, meet the Chief Instructor, Race Control and any other appropriate personnel. From time to time, driving groups may need to be adjusted to provide maximum drive time for all participants. Students and Instructors will be paired following the Drivers’ Meeting. Any changes to the Schedule will be announced over the PA system.
If you are attending the Drivers’ Ed program, you will need to move on to the upper floor of the two story building across from the Control Tower for Classroom.
What should I wear?
Long pants (natural fiber such as cotton) are required, closed toed shoes (preferably leather) and long sleeved shirts (natural fiber) are required. During the summer months, the Chief Instructor may accept short sleeved shirts.
Is it OK to bring a friend?
Family and friends are always welcome. They will have to sign a waiver and wear a guest wristband during the day. Minors (under 18) waivers will need to be completed by the Parent or Legal Guardian. Children must be supervised at all times not only in the paddock but also in the Garage area. Participants are there to drive and may not be aware of children moving about.
Will there be food available on grounds?
The Canteen opens around 6:30 am (unless otherwise determined) and stays open until 2 pm. Short order foods such as hamburgers, hot dogs, grill chicken, salads, ice creams and breakfast foods such as French toast, breakfast sandwiches are available.
How long is the day?
We start the day around 8 am and run until 5 pm. Classroom time is about 1 ½ hrs. - 2 hrs. throughout the day. On track time will be at least 5- 20 minute sessions which will be in a rotation. You will also have time to debrief with your Instructor.
If I’ve signed up for a 2 Day Event, do I need to sign in again on the 2nd day?
No, so long as you keep your wrist band on and have the 2 day sticker for your car you will not need to come back by registration or go through Tech again.
Can I bring chairs, etc with me?
Some folks like to bring pop-up tents, select the shade of a tree or obtain a garage ($60/day) which comes with power. Blankets, lawn chairs, and/or coolers are acceptable. It is extremely important to stay well hydrated during the day especially during warmer weather.
What if I don’t have a helmet?
Your helmet will be checked to assure that it is acceptable. We use 2010 helmets with a Snell rating. If you don’t have one, they can be rented for $20/day. Ask at Registration.
What type of credentials do Instructors have?
Palmetto/Turn One Instructors are carefully selected. Many of them are Club Instructors (PCA, BMW, and THSCC) while others instruct with other groups such as NASA, SCCA, CHIN. All have been evaluated by their own groups and are also critiqued by our Staff/Management.
Do I need an Instructor?
For folks starting out new an Instructor is required. If you have previously participated in similar activities but with another group, please provide documentation as to the Club, etc. and a contact person such Chief Instructor so that we can verify your skill level. Clubs and organizations work closely together to share information to insure the safety of participants. If there is a question, a Sign-off Ride with the Chief Instructor will be needed.
